From Merry-Lee “I have some 5 year old G709 (right 1/3) some 2 year old G709 (center 1/3) and some of the current batch (left 1/3). I tested them all side by side. You can see how different they all look. The colorants are minerals and oxides of metals that are mined directly out of the earth. We have seen the biggest changes in oranges and reds as different mine sources have been depleted. Most of the oranges have disappeared entirely.
To achieve a peachy tone you might experiment with a basecoat of one of the Nihon Shippo yellows or 190 together with a pink or your G709. In my Mastering Color series, I talk about layering for richness to achieve results of colors that don't exist on their own.
Mack used to have an amazing peach 1090. It was discontinued because the company could no longer source the raw materials. They recently let us know that they will be back in production with 1090 but the price will be sky high. Almost $1,000 per kilo! We had to order 5 kilos to get it and we are crossing our fingers that it will be that lovely peach.
